2014 - Pumps and Pumps and Packing Glands and Winches

The weather this fall was great for lots of sunny light-air bay sailing.

In addition to her usual yearly engine maintenance, Yanmar engine mechanic Bill Ingle replaced the raw water and fresh water pumps, draining both systems and replacing all hoses. Adjusting the packing gland made Hurulu a dry boat. Other maintenance included greasing all winches, inspecting the keel bolts, and more.

2013 Summer - Yanmar Engine Overhaul; Lots of Bay Sailing

We decided to take a break from boat maintenance and get Hurulu out of her berth. So we hired master Yanmar engine mechanic Bill Ingle to go thoroughly through engine and do whatever was necessary to make her totally reliable. While we were at it, we replaced her batteries with new ACM maintenance-free ones. Now with Hurulu's engine trouble-free, we've had a lot of fun bay sailing her this summer. 

2012 Summer - Haulout, Rebuld of Forepeak completed

We got serious about making Hurulu comfortable and dry -- so we hired two master craftsmen, Hans Rau and Steve Jones, to restore her forepeak and foredeck to the original, adding a heavy-duty reinforced Ocean Hatch. We replaced all panels and all flashings, vinyl and wood, with all new panels, insulation, and cushions.  A total re-do to make sleeping aboard comfortable and homey.

Now cozy, we started spending more time aboard.

Also she was hauled out in San Rafael by Steve Jones - Here she is popping back into the water -- lots of fresh bottom paint and rubbed out topsides !

2011 Summer - Lots of boat maintenance

Here's our summer checklist ..

Replace dock lines
Replace 12 volt batteries with  maintenance free batteries

Fix companionway steps (did not seat properly, fix & move hardware)
Re-stitch dodger, sun shade, mainsail cover, wheel cover with gortex thread
Fix table (replace soft plywood with ash hardwood in screw backing plate)
Replace headliner in main salon
Make propane tank fit properly in locker
Rebuild head
Varnish

2010 Summer - Hurulu Hauled Out, Labor Day Weekend

Jan, Steve & June ( that's us in the photo, Jan's the masked one ) sailed Hurulu to the San Rafael boatyard over Labor day and hauled her out. All went well. Spic 'n span and back in the water in three days with a freshly painted bottom. All maintenance now done for 2010.

Hurulu is sold.

It's a bittersweet moment. Great to have a boat sell very quickly in a tough economy, but sad to part with the boat that carried us safely through several thousand miles of adventures.

The good news is that a very nice Sausalito woman named Jan bought the boat. Jan was good friends with two of Hurulu's former owners, and knows the boat well. Plus, she's pledged to continue to take us sailing on her from time to time...very cool.

So, for the time being, we'll be sailing the Bay on our other boat, a Sparkman & Stephens designed Yankee Dolphin 24, while plotting out our strategy for the next big trip.

Hurulu Arrives in San Francisco Bay -- Now Offically For Sale

UPDATE: After a slow but relatively uneventful delivery from PV to Cabo, then up the coast of Baja, and then along the California coast, Hurulu finally made it under the GG Bridge and into San Francisco Bay on June 7th.

Many thanks to Captain Dave for taking care of our gal and delivering her safe and sound. If you have a boat down south and need a delivery captain, contact me for his info...highly recommended.

Hurulu is now safely in her slip at the Sausalito Yacht Harbor (C dock, #631). We had her cleaned and detailed and she is now ready for viewing.

She is in excellent shape and ready to take you south this fall or anywhere you want to go.
